The concept of Wabi-sabi was introduced to me back in college by my art professor. It's something I've always tried to work into my own artwork and even my web design. I've always felt that perfectly rendered art and design carried with it a certain sense of boredom or heartlessness. After spending some time in college spinning out my own sturdy little teacups on the potter's wheel I came to realize that the most beautiful thing about an imperfect vessel is it's likeness to mankind. Flawed yet still so very functional. Now how do I take a philosophy like Wabi-sabi and incorporate it into web design? A List Apart has a great little article on working elegance and heart into perfectly, coded designs. A lot of great ideas and a fantastic article but I'd still like to explore the concept some more and see if there are any different ideas for incorporating Wabi-sabi into the web.
